Zero Motorcycle peformance on par with gas

Will the motorcross community welcome the all electric Zero Motorcycles?   I don’t think it’ll be a hard sell.  The benefits of instant torque, no emissions, no noise, and low operating costs out weighs the gas horsepower.  The inventor of the Zero is Neil Saiki, once a NASA aeronautical engineer who wanted to build a clean, quiet ride that will change the moto world.  His background was designing bikes for big names such as Haro, Santa Cruz, and Mountain Cycle.

The gem within his motorbike is not the light weight aluminum frame, but the custom built lithium ion battery pack.  It gets 40miles on a 2hr charge from a standard 110v or 220v outlet pushing out 2 kWh (58volts @ 35Ah).  Total weight is 140lbs and will set you back $7,450.00, but look at it way it’ll only cost you $.01 per mile of FUN.  Oh just wait until you see their latest version the Supermoto that can reach 65mph that can travel up to 60miles per Popular Science.  Of course a street version is currently under development.
